About Amharic
Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia and the native tongue of the Amhara people. It’s widely spoken throughout the country and among diaspora communities in the U.S., Canada, and beyond. Interestingly, many Rastafarians learn Amharic as a sacred language due to its historical ties to Ethiopia.
Part of the Semitic branch of Afro-Asiatic languages, Amharic is closely related to Tigrinya and Tigre. While regional dialects exist, Amharic is mutually intelligible across the country.
